Hypertension – The long term prognosis

Hypertension is known as the silent killer but it is very treatable and preventable.

Poor

If hypertension or high blood pressure is left untreated then the outcome is usually death. If the blood pressure is severely high then this death may be within a few years.

Good

Treatment with modern drugs will give a good outcome. The problem with drug treatment is that you may not be effectively treating the underlying lifestyle factors. Living an unhealthy life will shorten your life expectancy no matter how many drugs you take.

Excellent

Treating high blood pressure by changing your lifestyle and taking healthy food supplements will give the best outcome. Tackling the root causes of hypertension will also tackle many other unhealthy habits. For example kicking smoking will not only decrease your chances of getting lung cancer but will also reduce your risk of heart disease.

A number of people find that a diagnosis of high blood pressure and then the miserable side effects from medication gives them the motivation to change.
